reaction about Gattaca
This is Shuhei.
I've just saw the movie Gattaca.
First, I thought that DNA in the movie is treated like the academic background in our society.
Also, however, i found that there is slight difference between the DNA and academic background. the same aspect is that, both of them provide people with some bias which might be true and might not. Also the difference is that the fomer is defined when one was born or controled to have good DNA, and people hardly can change the bias or get good DNA again, no matter how they put effort on it. On the other hand, nowadays there are much more chance to change the bias of academic background or most people have chance to get good acdemic background even, though some have inborn advantage made by the economical background.
In the movie, the main character could change the bias, but most could not. It made me to think that I should not to rely on the bias, because some would be hurt when they were judged by the bias not their character.

My topic and questions
A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I am sorry to being too late.
My topic for presentation is gene therapy.
My questions are
1. How do you think about operating genes to cure?
2. Do you agree with gene therapy? Why?
3. What should human beings wrestle with this.

GATTACA
I watched GATTACA. It was very interesting.
I started to think about what "human respect" is like.
This is just a movie and this story is a fiction, but what is frightning is that its situation can be come true in the future. As the provorb "Curiosity kills cats." says, scientifical technology will develop and eventually such a thing can be happen.
It is very difficult to conclude bioethics program, but this movie can be the first step to think about it, because it tells us directly the problems of bioethics, especially cloning .
In this point, Ithink this movie is interesting and good.

Movie GATTACA
A happy new year!!!!!
This is Kaori and I finally got to see GATTACA. So I'll write what I flet from this movie.
At first, when I was watching this movie, I thought that these genetically controlled society can happen in the near future. To illustrate, nowadays, people uses 'prenatal test' to find out how healthy the child is. This can lead to genetic discrimination because if the baby has some kind of disease, they may abort the baby. This means that people will start to wish to have the'PERFECT' babies who are healthy and intelligent. However, we must to remember that this test did not ment to produce discrimination firstable.
To sum up, from this movie, I learned that we must be aware the way we use the new technology because sometimes these reasonable things can lead to tragic.....

Reaction to "Gattaca"
Hello, this is Atsushi.
I was very impressed with the movie because this has somewhat reality.
This story may warn us that hierarchy and discrimination from genes will happen in the future.
For example, some religionists claim that such things are acting like god by human and
some scientists and philosophers claim that society will become like this movie.
However, society like this movie will not be because our mind can not be determined by genes.
Current situations of science have the power to realize such society but human should investigate the justification to make such society. This is one of the philosophical problems and we must think seriously about this to find out how our society is and should be.
This kind of work will not be done by our genes but by our minds which are percieved and influenced by the view of this world.

My Reaction to "GATTACA"
Hello! I'm Itsuki Iida.
I watched the movie "GATTACA", so, I want to remark about this movie.
I think this movie shows suffering of too much concernning with inherent nature.
In this movie, all of three main characters are dissatisfied with their nature and feel sadness.
Binsent, who pretend to be Jerome, feel complex for his genetical character and disliked the Earth but achieved to become astronaut; however, he finds his surroundings are worth to live when he leave the Earth. Jerome, who gives Binsent his genetical identity, reveals that he disliked his nature and kill himself, at last. A woman, who seems to become girlfriend of Binsent, has possibility of heart disease and cannot go space although she works at GATTACA.
These factors conveys that determining one's life by inherent nature only produces incurable sadness because human are powerless for their nature. Whether one has "superior genes" or not, people can feel dissatisfaction because human has mind.
Although this movie was made about 10 years ago, problems posed by this movie is still effective to think ethical problems related to genetical studies.
